Colorado State Senate - District 1

Top Issues

Environment / Energy When it comes to energy, I am an "all of the above" kind of guy. Within Senate District 1, we already have multiple forms of energy including, Wind, Solar, and our powerhouse - Oil and Gas.. I support any form of energy that partners with agriculture and helps us reduce our dependence on foreign oil. We need to repeal SB 19-181 and roll back regulations, so that we can take advantage of the robust oil and gas industry that already exists in Colorado. Economy Agriculture is one of the top economic drivers for the seven counties that make up Senate District 1. We need someone in the Senate that is knowledgeable about the Ag industry and will stand up and defend northeast Colorado from legislative attacks. Agriculture is a part of my daily life - I live it. Taxes / Budget You ALWAYS know how to spend your money better than the government. I believe very strongly that the purpose of government should NEVER be to grow government! Criminal Justice / Public Safety We need to return to treating law enforcement like heroes, instead of treating them like villains. I will fight ANY legislation that makes it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs. We need to repeal SB 217 because it ties the hands of law enforcement. We also need to reform the criminal justice system, specifically with Personal Recognizance (PR) bonds. Guns I have been a proponent of the second amendment my entire life. Between protecting our livestock from predators and hunting to feed our family, I grew up with guns in the house. When I served in the United States Navy I took an oath to protect the Constitution, which includes the Second Amendment. I've never been relieved of that oath. I will always support your right and responsibility to bear arms to protect your family. Drug Policy Meth, Opioid, and Fentanyl have ushered in a wave of crime and theft in our state. Colorado is now #1 in auto thefts. Colorado deserves better - we HAVE TO DO BETTER, to make our state safer again.
