Top Issues

Education Nationally, districts are discovering that students simply shift distracting behavior to school-issued laptops and the research shows that saturating classrooms with devices hasn't delivered the test score gains that were promised. I am not calling for banning Chromebooks. I am calling for using them with intention: commissioning a study of actual screen time during the FCPS school day, exploring cart-based device models in elementary grades, establishing grade-level guidelines that prioritize hands-on instruction, and requiring annual transparency reporting to families on screen time, content filtering, and instructional outcomes. Education I commit to implementing and continuing Policy 443, which aligns with my moral values as an educator. Education I will push for early, enthusiastic implementation of a true bell-to-bell personal device ban with clear consequences and appropriate accommodations for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and health needs. Education It's crucial to plan strategically to address overcrowding in schools, renovate schools in urgent need, and allocate appropriate funding for new construction. I believe it's essential to keep the public informed and give them the opportunity to advocate for their school communities. Education I support providing Universal Free Meals to students as it is a great initiative. Healthcare We need to prioritize mental health in schools by fully staffing counselors, psychologists, and wellness advocates. It's essential to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and ensure that counseling services are well-funded and available with reduced wait times. Education I believe parents are essential partners in their child's education and deserve transparency, open communication, and meaningful engagement with schools. At the same time, public schools have a responsibility to provide every student with a consistent, standards-based, and age-appropriate education. While families should always have a voice, public education cannot be individually tailored to every personal belief or political viewpoint without becoming fragmented and inconsistent for students and teachers alike. Education I support expanding CTC programs from one location to expanding CTE programs within schools. Education I am unwavering in my commitment to bringing a Universal Pre-K program to Frederick County, believing that it will uplift our community, improve academics, and boost our economy. Education I also believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion are educational strengths, not political buzzwords. Research shows that inclusive learning environments lead to stronger academic outcomes, improved critical thinking, and better preparation for the real world. Education I strongly oppose "Book Banning," which has been carried out by groups such as Moms for Liberty, fringe activist groups, and organized campaigns targeting this. Education We also need to look at the expansion of AP and Dual enrollment opportunities and ensure equitable access.
