Infrastructure / Transportation Prioritize roads, traffic solutions, and practical planning tools to manage growth the right way. Blount County has seen rapid growth that has outpaced the improvement of infrastructure. We have outgrown our roads, and we need to protect our quality of life. Taxes / Budget Keep taxes low, operate within a balanced budget, and continue paying down debt. Infrastructure / Transportation Continue to fund maintenance and improvements on our county school buildings. Education Work with and support the school board in their efforts to fund and improve measures to protect children. Economy We should focus on improving wages and earnings for Blount County citizens. Recruitment of employers should be focused on those who will bring high paying jobs to the area that will be filled by Blount County citizens. Guns Stand with responsible gun owners while enforcing laws against criminals. Economy Ensure zoning restrictions do not constrict meat processing facilities in a way that makes them uneconomical (while balancing resident rights). Farmers need close, reliable access to those processing facilities. Infrastructure / Transportation Guide future growth to the areas that can support it with adequate infrastructure and away from the rural areas where the infrastructure is sparse. Resist sprawl and preserve farmland. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Continue to advocate for and encourage the state legislature to enact harsher penalties for child abuse and offensive touching of minors. Criminal Justice / Public Safety Back law enforcement, fight drugs, and strengthen public safety partnerships.
