Michigan Governor

Top Issues

Education John will opt Michigan into the new Federal Scholarship Tax Credit that he fought to pass in Congress. This new law empowers parents to choose the best school or educational option for their children. John believes that giving parents access to the broadest array of educational options for their children enforces greater accountability in all our schools. Education Parents have the primary right to direct the education, moral, and religious upbringing of their children, free from undue state interference. Taxes / Budget Investigate the 8 billion unemployment fraud scandal. Demand preservation of all records. Government Reform Ban all fundraising by state officials during legislative session. Prohibit all state officials and their staff members from soliciting or receiving campaign contributions while the legislature is in session. This practice is the law in at least 15 other states, including Florida and Texas. Healthcare Reform MDHHS influence over County Health Departments. Healthcare Parents have the right of access to all school health records, including counseling sessions, with parental notification for non-emergency interventions. Education Every family deserves a safe school that meets their child’s unique learning needs. Not the one their zip code assigned them. On day one, John will opt Michigan into the Federal K-12 Education Freedom Tax Credit, putting scholarship dollars directly in parents’ hands. Expand charter school options and embrace innovation in every education setting. Education Focus on literacy with proven phonics techniques. Mastery-based promotion. Physical textbooks. Cellphones out of classrooms. The basics work. We are going back to them. Government Reform Require legislative approval to extend emergency orders beyond 14 days, and implement sunset clauses to prevent unchecked executive authority. Taxes / Budget Conduct a comprehensive audit of all state government expenditures for the past ten years – including MEDC, MDHHS, and COVID-19 handouts – to root out fraud, waste, and abuse, such as what was recently discovered on a massive scale in Minnesota. Taxes / Budget We are eliminating the state income tax. Not someday. Not maybe. We are doing it. Michigan families, workers, and small businesses deserve to keep every dollar they earn. You wake up early, work hard, play by the rules, and Lansing takes a cut before you ever see your paycheck. That ends when I am Governor. My plan starts by cleaning out the waste, rewarding the workers who keep this state running, and growing our economy until the income tax is gone for good. No gimmicks. No empty promises. Just results. Taxes / Budget Fully fund the state auditor general’s office (in contrast to Whitmer’s attempt to cut 8.3 million from the auditor general). Taxes / Budget Create a fund to support small businesses and individuals financially harmed by shutdowns, unjust penalties, or prolonged loss of licenses. Education Michigan needs electricians as much as engineers and young artists deserve nurturing and career paths, too. Every student not headed to college or military service will graduate high school with a trade certification, professional license, or career-ready portfolio. A Michigan diploma will be a passport to opportunity.
