The Lieutenant Governor is the second-highest ranking official of the state executive office. The Lieutenant Governor is the first successor to the Governor and the presiding officer of the State Senate, only voting to break a tie.
Must be minimum 30 years old, a state resident for 7 years, and a US citizen for 10 years, and a registered voter.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $1325; signature requirement (for independent and minor party candidates) of 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.
Paperwork Instructions
Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with their respective state party organization.
