Eligibility Requirements
Must be licensed to practice law in Alabama, and must have been licensed by the Alabama State Bar Association or any other state bar association for a combined total of 10 years or more. Must be under the age of 70 years of age upon the date of election. Must not have been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment in the state or federal penitentiary.
Filing Requirements
Filing Fee (Major party candidates only): 2% of the annual salary for the office. Petition Signature Requirements (independent and minor party candidates only): 3% of the number of votes cast in the district for the office of governor in the last general election.
Paperwork Instructions
Submit paperwork to the Alabama Secretary of State's office. Major party candidates must also qualify with the state party organization.
