County retention court judges are responsible for adjudicating cases in Civil and Criminal Courts at the trial-level in certain specific areas, such as small-claims court or drug court.
A candidate for county court must be a resident and qualified elector of the county at the time of the election or selection. They must be under the age of 72 at the time their name is submitted to the Governor and must have graduated from high school or have attained the equivalent of a high school education.
