Local school board members are responsible for overseeing school operations within the district, typically including employment decisions regarding a district superintendent.
A candidate for the school board must be a resident of the school district and a registered voter for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election. If the school district has director districts in its plan of representation, the person must be a resident of the director district in which he or she is a candidate. No person who has been convicted of a sexual offense against a child is eligible to serve on the school board.
Filing Requirements
No filing fee. Petititon signature requirement of 25 eligible electors of the school district in districts with fewer than 1,000 students, or 50 eligible electors in districts with more than 1,000 students.
