County retention court judges are responsible for adjudicating cases in Civil and Criminal Courts at the trial-level in certain specific areas, such as small-claims court or drug court.
A candidate must be a qualified elector and be a resident of that county at the time of the election or selection. They must be licensed to practice law in Colorado for at least five years; and under the age of 72 at the time his or her name is submitted to the Governor for appointment.
