State Senators are members of the state's upper chamber, as part of the state's bicameral legislature. State senators are responsible for voting on: bills related to public policy matters, levels for state spending, raises or decreases in taxes, and whether to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.
Must be at least 18 years old and an elector in the district from which they are elected.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $0; signature requirement of 5% of party members in the state (major party candidates), 1% of party members in the state (minor party members), or the lesser of 1% of votes cast for office or 7,500 votes (independent candidates).

Submit paperwork to the local registrar's office, who will submit paperwork to the Secretary of State.
