About this position
The County Coroner or Medical Examiner is responsible for inquiring into the cause and manner of death of a citizen in their jurisdiction. The County Coroner or Medical Examiner is also responsible for completing test results, documenting evidence, completing autopsies, and providing testimonies.

Eligibility Requirements
Must be at least 25 years of age, a registered voter in the county, a holder of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and a resident of the county for at least two years immediately preceding the date of qualifying for election. Each candidate must have successfully completed a basic training course provided by the Georgia Police Academy, and if any candidate is elected who has not completed this course, they must complete said course within 180 days of election.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee: $338.22 (3 percent of the annual salary for the office). Petition signature requirement: For independent and minor party candidates only: 5 percent of the total number of registered voters eligible to vote in the last election for the office.
