Candidate must be at least 30 years old, a qualified elector, citizen of the United States, a citizen and resident of Georgia, and a resident of the district they are elected to for twelve months. The candidate may not be directly or indirectly interested in any mercantile business or any corporation selling commodities to the public.

Filing is 3% of the annual salary of the office; Signature requirement of partisan candidates unable to pay filing fee is 1% of eligible voters in the previous election for this office, Signature requirement of independent candidates is 5% of eligible voters in the previous election for this office.
