The candidate must be at least 30 years and a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas and engaged in the practice of law for at least five years, whether as a lawyer, judge, or full-time teacher at an accredited law school. The candidate must be a resident of the judicial district at the time of taking office and while holding office.
Filing Requirements
Filing Fee: $70. The candidate must file with the Secretary of State's office. A candidate may file by petition or by Declaration of Intention, Form CD. If filing by petition, the judicial candidate must submit the Kansas Primary Nomination Petition. When filed, the petition must be accompanied by a Governmental Ethics Commission/Secretary of State (GEC/SOS) fee of $70. A candidate filing by Declaration of Intention, Form CD, may obtain the form from the Secretary of State's Elections division or from the county election official.
