About this position
State Senators are members of the state's upper chamber, as part of the state's bicameral legislature. State senators are responsible for voting on: bills related to public policy matters, levels for state spending, raises or decreases in taxes, and whether to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.

Eligibility Requirements
Must be at least 30 years old, a citizen of Kentucky, and have resided in the state at least 6 years and the district at least 1 year prior to election
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $200; signature requirement of 2 registered voters of the same party from the district or jurisdiction from which candidate seeks nomination (Democrat and Republican) or 100 signatures (independent).
