State Representatives are members of the state's lower chamber, as part of the state's bicameral legislature. State representatives are responsible for voting on: bills related to public policy matters, levels for state spending, raises or decreases in taxes, and whether to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.
Each representative must be a citizen of the United States and a registered and qualified elector of the district he or she represents by the filing deadline
Filing Requirements
Republican and Democratic candidates may either submit a filing fee of $100 or submit a petition signed by 200-400 electors. Minor party candidates are nominated by convention. For candidates without a political affiliation, signature requirement is 600-1200 electors.
Paperwork Instructions
Submit paperwork to the Secretary of State's office for a district comprised of two or more countries. Submit paperwork to the County Clerk's office for a district contained within a single county.
