The Governor is the chief executive of the state. They are commander-in-chief of the state military forces, they appoint department heads and members of boards and commissions, and have the power to sign or veto bills from the Nevada State Legislature.
Salaries for elected officials are indexed off of a base rate set in 2011 and increased at the beginning of every new term based on the percentage increase of the salaries of state employees over the preceding term. The base salary was $141,000/year in 2011 (NRS 223.050).

Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $300; Filing fee for independent candidates only is 1% of total number of voters for the position in the previous election, or 250 eligible voters.
