About this position
The lieutenant governor serves as the president of the senate when the legislature is in session, but only casts a tie-breaking vote. The lieutenant governor also serves as acting governor when the governor is out of state or otherwise unable to serve. The lieutenant governor also serves as the chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism and the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.

Salary
Salaries for elected officials are indexed off of a base rate set in 2011 and increased at the beginning of every new term based on the percentage increase of the salaries of state employees over the preceding term. The base salary was $60,000/year in 2011 (NRS 224.050).

Eligibility Requirements
Candidate must be a qualified elector, at least 25 years old, and a resident of Nevada for at least two years.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $300; Filing fee for independent candidates only is 1% of total number of voters for the position in the previous election, or 250 eligible voters.
