About this position
The secretary of state acts as the official record-keeper of the state of Nevada and is the keeper of the State Seal of Nevada. The secretary also maintains the official bond of the state treasurer and serves on the State Board of Prison Commissioners, the State Board of Examiners, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board, the State Records Committee, the State Advisory Committee on Participatory Democracy and the Executive Branch Audit Committee.

Salaries for elected officials are indexed off of a base rate set in 2011 and increased at the beginning of every new term based on the percentage increase of the salaries of state employees over the preceding term. The base salary was $97,000/year in 2011 (NRS 225.050).

Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $300; Filing fee for independent candidates only is 1% of total number of voters for the position in the previous election, or 250 eligible voters.
