The governor has a duty to enforce state laws, and the power to either approve the veto bills passed by the New York State Legislature, to convene the legislature, and to grant pardons, except in cases of treason and impeachment. The governor is the head of the state Executive Department.
Must be at least 30 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a New York resident for the 5 years next preceding the election.
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $0; signature requirement of the lesser of 5% of enrolled voters of the party in the state or 15,000, whichever is less (party candidates); the lesser of 5% of the total number of votes cast for governor at the last gubernatorial election, or 15,000 (independent candidates).
