State Senators are members of the state's upper chamber, as part of the state's bicameral legislature. State senators are responsible for voting on: bills related to public policy matters, levels for state spending, raises or decreases in taxes, and whether to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.
Must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, a resident of state for 5 years, and a resident of district for 12 months immediately preceding election
Filing Requirements
Filing fee is $0; signature requirement of 5% of enrolled voters of the party in the district or 1,000, whichever is less (party candidates); 5% of the total number of votes cast for governor at the last gubernatorial election in the district or 3,000, whichever is less (independent candidates).
