The City Justice of the Peace (Non-Judicial) is responsible for administering oaths, deciding on property tax assessment appeals, overseeing election conduct, and solemnizing marriages.
A person must be a legal voter of the town and have been nominated by party caucus, by the town committee, or have collected 30 signatures or 1 percent of legal voters of town, whichever is less (if running as an independent candidate) in order to be elected justice of the peace.
