What is Public Sector?

The public sector includes all parts of the economy and workforce that are controlled or funded by the government. Public sector organizations provide essential services that support the public good, such as education, healthcare, transportation, and public safety.

People who work in the public sector are known as public servants. These include everyone from teachers and firefighters to city planners, public health officials, and even members of Congress. These roles are funded through tax revenue and generally focus on serving communities rather than generating profit.

Public sector work happens at different levels:

• State Government: Departments of transportation, education, and public health
• Federal Government: National agencies like the U.S. Postal Service, Social Security Administration, or Department of Defense
